New York Times bestseller
The Broken Eye continues the spectacular Lightbringer series from the New York Times bestselling author of The Black Prism and The Blinding Knife.

As the old gods awaken and satrapies splinter, the Chromeria races to find the only man who can still end a civil war before it engulfs the known world. But Gavin Guile has been captured by an old enemy and enslaved on a pirate galley. Worse still, Gavin has lost more than his powers as Prism--he can't use magic at all.

Without the protection of his father, Kip Guile will face a master of shadows as his grandfather moves to choose a new Prism and put himself in power. With Teia and Karris, Kip will have to use all his wits to survive a secret war between noble houses, religious factions, rebels, and an ascendant order of hidden assassins called The Broken Eye.

Extremely good book. Elevates the series quite a bit.
By Donald T.
“The Broken Eye” is the third installment in Brent Weeks “Lightbringer” series. This book picks up after the events of “The Blinding Knife” and continues the story. I have read some of the other reviews of the book and there are several that talk about this one being nothing more than a “filler” book and is a disappointment. I couldn’t disagree more. With this book, I feel Weeks has elevated the overall story quite a bit. I think this is the best of the three books. Weeks’ talent as an author and as a storyteller have never been in question, but with “The Broken Eye”, he has given us a depth of scale that I don’t know that I’ve read from him before. There are several twists and turns in this book that are so darn good that it’ll leave you with a huge smile on your face because you know that Weeks pulled one right by you. The ending is a cliffhanger and waiting for the next book is going to be torture.
I’ve made comments in other book reviews that I believe Brandon Sanderson is the best in the genre, but with each release from Weeks, he continues to make sure his name is still in that conversation. This third book is fantastic. Extremely well done. A+

I like this book the best so far of the three
By M. Lewis
I like this book the best so far of the three. That said I realize there will be some disagreement on that. This book explores the depth and character progression much more than the other books do and that is where I see some have felt it short changed on more "action" orientated aspects of the two previous books. I wouldn't argue that but the detail and scope of what we learn and how it effects the characters is much greater in detail. I love that kind of writing if done right and here it is. If you really enjoy that kind of stuff too then you'll love it. If not still enjoyable but not as much as the first two.

Flawed but likable
By Jason R. Terlitzky
Flawed but likable. Wanders unnecessarily like it's going to tilt into Moby Dick sidetracking for a while, but finishes dramatically in the second half.
Editors could have substantially trimmed some of the first half that didn't particularly further the plot. So it goes. There's more than a bit of gratuitous violence/torture, but that's Weeks, and there are some genuinely droll macabre moments, as with Mr Sharp's smile. Most of the characters from earlier volumes are present and active, and although the Color Prince is largely absent, alas, the book takes care of a variety of staging and development to setup later collisions. The dialogue has a habit of blending into a common quip style, even when characters should speak distinctly, but one can easily suspend that disbelief as if it's a buffy universe with a certain themed speech style. Would recommend and will buy the follow-up.
