Not so good

This is not something I need in a book: Too much information and not all of them are needed. What is the user guide of synthesis tool, place and route tool for? If I need them, I will look for those tools' documents, not this book.
Also, where is ASIC? Nearly half of the book is user guide and FPGA project. Remain are some recall theories and RTL coding guideline.

More than that, although the theories and RTL guideline are good (more then good, actually) but the testbench is disappointed. We cannot control inputs and review outputs manually, there must be some way to check output and only report result if the model does not behave like what expected.

In conclusion, if we need concept of design and RTL code, then we can use the first half of the book; if we need FPGA projects, then some last chapters can help us; if we need some thing about ASIC example, forget it.

Detailed transformations of algorithms for optimal desighns

This is an excellent book, written by one of the authorities in the field. It offers detailed design techniques that will help the system designer explore the 3-dimension design space and achieve optimizations in all or either of: area, time, energy consumption. The use of specific examples illustrates the techniques, while complicated backround information is well-organized in the Appendices. I used the book as a recommended text book in my 1-semester "VLSI Signal Processing" graduate-level class and the students really loved it. It covers all availble techniques, from the simplest to the most advanced ones, with full explanation of the theory, with complete and detailed implementation steps for a wide range of signal processing algorithms.Since the book does not deal with the design at the physical level, but with transformations of the processing algorithms so that their VLSI implementations will satisfy certain criteria of optimality, it is not absolutely mandatory that the reader has already taken courses in VLSI design, although this could help appreciate the benefits offered by the techniques detailed in the book. The exercises found at the end of each chapter help the reader apply the learned techniques in all kinds of applications. I am convinced that the thoroughness and the high standards accomplished by the author in the writing of this book will help establish it as the leading text or reference book for several years to come.

Required Text for Digital Signal Processing Designers

If you're a communications system architect or designer, this is a required text for the efficient implementation of modern DSP algorithms.
Having the text for a few months, a group of us have already applied techniques offered in the text in VHDL.
The first chapters cover pipelining, parallel processing, retiming, folding and unfolding theory. These chapters are necessary to really understand DSP optimization concepts. I have not found another text where these concepts are discussed.
The text is positioned well between a pure analytic text, and a "cookbook." Some personal effort is required to code a technique, but this shouldn't be difficult for someone using MATLAB. Once modeled and simulated, the implementer should be able to translate the high level code into VHDL, Verilog, or a programmable DSP such as the TI TMS320 in "C."
Personally, I found Dr. Prahi's discussion of fixed point quantization by canonic signed digit format very useful.
An example problem is provided with each technique to enhance understanding.

About the Author
Alfred Thomas is an associate professor of collision repair at Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He is also a contributing editor for "Auto Body Repair News," a monthly collision repair technical journal. Mr. Thomas is an ASE Master Certified Collision Repair and Refinishing Technician and an I-CAR Platinum™ technician. His educational background includes a Master of Arts degree from Eastern Michigan University, a Bachelor of Science degree from Trevecca Nazarene University, and an Associate of Arts degree from Washtenaw Community College.

Michael Jund taught collision repair for many years at Scott Community College, where he also served as department coordinator and dean of applied technologies. He graduated from the University of South Dakota with a Bachelor of Science degree, and he earned a Master of Science degree from Western Illinois University. Mr. Jund is an ASE Master Certified Collision Repair and Refinishing Technician and an I-CAR Platinum™ technician. He now teaches part-time for I-CAR and performs aluminum and steel welding qualification training and testing as well. Mr. Jund has also been an evaluation team leader for NATEF.

Collision Repair and refinishing

It is to my understanding the text is used by the students of vehicle repair at the colleges. My husband thought it was a good tool to keep abreast of the changes that have been made over the years, even though he has been an auto body person for many years. For those wanting to refresh or taking a course or writing to receive their certificate it's perfect.

Beezus and Ramona

Now that she's six and entering the first grade, Ramona is determined to be brave, but it's not always easy, with a scary new all-by-herself bedroom, her mother's new job, and a new teacher who just doesn't understand how hard Ramona is trying to grow up.

Ramona Quimby, Age 8

Ramona feels quite grown up taking the bus by herself, helping big sister Beezus make dinner, and trying hard to be nice to pesky Willa Jean after school. Turning eight years old and entering the third grade can do that to a girl. So how can her teacher call her a nuisance? Being a member of the Quimby family in the third grade is harder than Ramona expected.

About the Author

Beverly Cleary is one of America's most beloved authors. As a child, she struggled with reading and writing. But by third grade, after spending much time in her public library in Portland, Oregon, she found her skills had greatly improved. Before long, her school librarian was saying that she should write children's books when she grew up.

Instead she became a librarian. When a young boy asked her, "Where are the books about kids like us?" she remembered her teacher's encouragement and was inspired to write the books she'd longed to read but couldn't find when she was younger. She based her funny stories on her own neighborhood experiences and the sort of children she knew. And so, the Klickitat Street gang was born!

Mrs. Cleary's books have earned her many prestigious awards, including the American Library Association's Laura Ingalls Wilder Award, presented to her in recognition of her lasting contribution to children's literature. Dear Mr. Henshaw won the Newbery Medal, and Ramona Quimby, Age 8 and Ramona and Her Father have been named Newbery Honor Books. Her characters, including Beezus and Ramona Quimby, Henry Huggins, and Ralph, the motorcycle-riding mouse, have delighted children for generations.

Jaqueline Rogers has been a professional children's book illustrator for more than twenty years and has worked on nearly one hundred children's books.

Grand daughter loves them

My grand daughter loves these books, she started second grade and reads very well for her age. She likes to read them silently now, so when she has read a chapter or two, I go back and ask her questions. She told me she no longer reads aloud!

Books for generations!

Great set of books! I wanted my child to start reading more and 1 of the books (Ramona & Beezus) was included in her summer reading. I love that it's a book that support kids imaginations. I love that it's a reading series that tests their sisterly relationship. (as I have 3 girls myself ;)

Not the illustrations from my childhood, but great books just the same

How can you not love Ramona?! I bought these to read to my two little girls, ages 3 and 6, and they are enjoying them so much. The only problem I have with this set it that it does have the new illustrations. I know that really isn't a problem, exactly, except that I so clearly remember the illustrations from my childhood and am sad that they have been replaced. Also, the book is still so much of the time it was written in - books at the the library costing three dollars to replace, for example - that then having these more modern illustrations seem....disjointed.
