Cohesive Report and Good Considering the Limitations the Author has to deal with

I would say it's better than most UFO books because it's at least somewhat cohesive and tries to follow a somewhat ordered structure. However, there's no proof of anything. I would say it's not the author's fault because of the material he's dealing with. It's a catch-22 on his part. He cannot access any information because of the supposed "cover-up," but at the same time any other claims are circumspect because nothing backs it up.

Overall, I'd say it's the best report on Roswell and poses some interesting theories. The author does a good job with it and makes it easy to follow. Believe me, for a UFO book, that is something extraordinary. Most UFO books are a bunch of anecdotes and sighting reports in no particular order. I recommend it.

Good Book, Bad Layout

I very much enjoyed the book. It was well researched, although there were several contradictions the authors didn't address, such as the metal found at the crash site was thin and bendable, but also described as unbendable and undentable with a sledge hammer.
The worse part, though, is all the grammatical errors, misspellings and run-on sentences in the Kindle edition, along with hyphenated words just to get the sentence to fill the space...Very annoying!

Below par in application and theory

Here's this book in a nutshell. "It tries to cover forecasting techniques theories while using a basic tool like excel, but in doing so it doesnt do justice to either theory OR excel".

The book is "ok" until simple linear regression, and after that it does no justice to theory and barely uses any excel. To give an example, I didnt see any excel based examples for multiple regression even though ANOVA is a feature under data analysis in excel and ANOVA was covered by the author (at least in theory) ... net, the author fails in application and even the theory was under par.

I was reading this book to decide if it can be recommended for a small business owner who may not have the budget for expensive analytical tools such as SAS or SPSS. If you are building your forecast based on time series analysis, then this book may have some value to offer ... but if you are looking to forecast based on independent variables other than time, then you've got to look elsewhere.

This is a good book to help forecasters learn the very basics of the skill in excel. However, I was looking for a more in-depth explanation of the box-Jenkins forecasting method ARIMA process. Specifically, how to construct an MA(1), MA(2),... The book did not meet my expectations.

Fabulous music; good arrangements

I have always loved the music from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, now I love it even more. This is music is relatively easy to play and still sounds good. I was sad that they shortened "Bless Yore Beautiful Hide" a little but other than that I have no complaints. It has all the main songs from the movie and it's so much fun to sing and play these arrangements.

Great introductory maths textbook for CS students

This is a great maths book for first year Computer Science undergraduates. It assembles in a single text most of the basic mathematical tools required in the study of Computer Science, ranging from sets and relations, to combinatorics and probabilities, to trees and logic.

Most importantly, the book is easy to follow even for someone who is not a great fan of mathematics; in fact, these are the people that will probably benefit most from this book. Concepts are presented very clearly, in a lively prose, with extra care in providing an intuitive grasp of formal notions, and attention in clarifying subtle details. This is further assisted by an on-going dialog spread throughout the book between two fictional characters, Alice and Mad Hatter (borrowed from Lewis Carroll's classical novel), discussing subtleties in the text. Carefully selected exercises in each chapter help to reinforce students understanding of the text.

Overall, a great introductory textbook. I strongly recommend it to anyone starting studies in Computer Science.

A very well written book.

I was fortunate enough to come across this book, in my search for a Maths "refresher". It was a pleasure to read - I thoroughly enjoyed working through this book, and doing the exercises. Dr Makinson has done a great job - at providing a proactive student with a much needed gateway to some of the Maths needed for Computer Science. One aspect of the book that I found enjoyable was the Alice Boxes - where Alice asks a a question pertaining to some worked example/solution and the Hatter responds with the answer, this was novel and valueable. An additional bonus that I experienced whilst reading this book, was a greater appreciation of Proofs, and a desire to learn more about these Mathematical building blocks. The book is part of a series of texts on Undergraduate Topics on Computer Science, there are a more than a few appealing titles in this series, for the serious student.

This excellent book is a serious look at aspects of mathematics you need for the world of computer science. You have to take it as seriously as it is written, to get what you want from it, but that's true for any new subject. Ideally, this is a textbook for classroom education, but if you're willingly to be your own teacher (as I am having to do), the exercises will perform that discipline for you.

About the Author

Donald R. Prothero is one of today's leading scientists and authors in the field of paleontology and evolution. He is a former professor of geology at Occidental College and a lecturer in geobiology at Caltech. He is presently a research associate in the Department of Vertebrate Paleontology at the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum. The author of more than thirty books and 250 scientific papers published in leading scholarly journals, he received his Ph.D. from Columbia University and is a fellow of the Geological Society of America, the Paleontological Society, and the Linnean Society of London. In 1991 he received the award for Outstanding Paleontologist Under the Age of 40 and was awarded the 2013 James Shea Award by the National Association of Geoscience Teachers for outstanding writing and editing in the geosciences.

If you are alive you've probably negotiated for something. Whether you wanted some candy as a child or you put an offer on your dream house as an adult, you probably used skills you didn't even know you had. This book helps you see things from another person's perspective. It teaches you what effective negotiators say and do. It helps protect against stalemates and shows the importance of asking questions before counter offering. I found this book helpful to understand real-life situations. Anything is possible if you have the right strategy.

I not recommend its purchase

is quite basic and, except in the last chapters, adds nothing new to the usual theories of negotiation. The "OK thing" is that the author use some good examples of real life negociation.
If this is your first book you'll read about negotiation, forward! but if you want depth, the book is a waste of time

From the Foreword: Factually, I’ve had seven, eight and nine thousand dollar weeks in the truck. And my best week ever was nearly $11,000 dollars! That’s one truck, one driver, seven days on the road, ELEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS! My best month ever was nearly thirty grand. And because my expenses tend to be rather low as a percentage of income, I’m able to walk away from the truck for weeks at a time with the bills paid and a pocket full of cash. It’s great to enjoy life without worrying about going to work every day, many years before other professions allow you to retire.

The following chapters contain the keys to my success and will guide you to the, “BIG MONEY” in trucking. Interestingly enough though, I believe one could use my success principles to take their present business or occupation from a full time job, into more of a part time job, with a full time income, as the principals are somewhat universal to business and success. And if you’re already into trucking, this can help you quickly add thousands to your bottom line.

From Chapter 3: Before I bought my first big truck I knew one thing; I knew that I needed to be highly successful in this business and not just “average” or I might just as well continue to drive someone else’s truck. Another thing I knew was that if other truckers were out there making it on a buck a mile or less, and they were, I could be much more profitable and therefore more successful if I consistently stayed “above average”. So that was part of my thinking as I was preparing to buy my first truck. Stay above average!

Looking back at the beginning of this whole operation I continue to find one thing very interesting. After I bought my truck, I worked from the middle of October to about a week before Christmas that year (about 8 weeks total, home on weekends), then I took six full weeks off! I didn’t go back to work until February 6th of the next year! I didn’t plan on taking all that time off, it just kind of happened. But what is curious to me was that I had the ability to take the time off; six weeks, without working. And that surprised even me!

The plan for my business from the outset was to make more money in less time so as to allow for a good bit of time off, but taking 6 full weeks off while only having started my trucking business just 8 weeks prior is a pretty fantastic statistic if you ask me.

So how was I able to take the time off so quickly and what was integral to my to my success you ask? From the very beginning, I did the following things…..

From Chapter 4: In the months before I bought my first big truck I was looking for opinions and advice from various people I knew who were somewhat expert about the business of trucking. One day I was at the O' having a few beers when I started talking with a guy who at one time had a fleet of coal trucks. We'll call him R.T. Over a beer or two, R.T. told me told me the principle of how he calculated his profits and expenses for his trucks and how those calculations were based on percentages (%) (of what each truck made) and how using this principle, he grew from one truck to many. This principle must have worked because he had many dozens of trucks before he sold out for big $$$$$ in the 90s.

R.T.’s principle went like this…..

Disappointed. No valuable info.

Extremely disappointed. The author simply tells you not to run cheap freight, to run hard, and then take time off work until you need money and then go back to running hard again. He appears to have no financial savvy and talks about taking loans for things such as four wheelers. He seems to admit he works hard so he can be lazy. Dave Ramsey would shred this guy to pieces. I did read it cover but found no real useful information.

I have been driving a company truck for 3.5 years trying to make money by driving more miles. I have been averaging over 120,000 miles a year for the last two years, but have been struggling financially. This book explained to me what I have been doing wrong and gave me a direction in which to go to make the kind of money I want to make. It gave me hope that i can be a financial success as a trucker. Great book.

Great book, perfect for what I needed and yet offers more. I have a pretty extensive English vocabulary and have used vocabulary flash cards in the past. The problem is, it gets harder over time to find useful words. Some are just so long or obscure that I don't find it fruitful to try to memorize or use them. And the rest are already known to me. This book managed to introduce some useful words and also has useful etymological information which further elucidates the real meaning of the word by exploring the history of its origin.

Because you can't always have a Thesaurus in hand~

I read a lot, but often the words I read get logged somewhere in the back of my mind so that I understand it (either from school or from the context clues through reading), recognize it when I see it again, but rarely could I use these in conversation. This handy little book is in a format that works well for learning some more advanced vocabulary through using the Latin roots.

What I like about this book is that most of the words are words that are understood by most folks, but rarely enter into conversation. It is also handy for writing instead of always going with the Thesaurus. Practicing the words out loud is nice also. If you even look at the excerpt provided, you see the layout of the book and a good example of the kinds of words that you will learn.

So why should you get this book? If you are studying for a standardized exam (such as SAT or GRE) then it's a handy reference. But if you are like me, you probably want to expand your vocabulary, though not in a way that makes you sound pretentious or overly verbose. Instead they are words that one might want to be familiar with in everyday speech but words that are not the most common. It is also especially nice if you are familiar with these words but want to get a firm grasp on their proper use.

I highly recommend this version due to the amazing format and sheer volume of actual usable words. Take that Dictionary.com word of the day e-mail! (of which 90% of the time are words I will never use) The other nice aid would be a set of GRE or SAT vocabulary flash cards. Though those focus on the most common GRE or SAT words and not necessarily on words one might really want to insert into everyday conversation.

Very handy and easy to bring around and learn and build your vocabulary, all at the same time. Get it at once. One thing, only, is that the letters are a little small and close to each other. Other than that, it is great to have these with Speak Tagalog, A Basic Primer book by Juanita de Guzman Gutierrez all on sale at Amazon for your reading and vocabulary building enjoyment!!!Four other kids books for children's literacy are The Blessed One, The Just One, Full of Grace, Chosen You Forever all by Gutierrez all at Amazon. Informative book!

This book was great to have, and contains information that would make both the neophyte and the senior geologist happy. It is divided into two parts, a non-technical part with road trips, outcrop locations, environmental considerations, tectonics, orogenies, etc... along with color pictures of the things Vera discusses. Then there was the technical section that contained all of the pertinent formations, their characteristics, locations, geologic histories, and stratigraphies. Also, some interesting things about the reservoir rocks in the Amazon Basin were presented as well.

A great book to help understand Ecuadorian geology.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I live in Cuenca, Ecuador and have been curious about the geology and rock formations of Ecuador for a long time. This book covers in details the basics, and then goes into much detail about the different geological provinces in Ecuador. Also included is a "tour roads" guide that is very helpful in finding future locations to research. I have travelled cross country all over Ecuador now for 3 years and this book gives me new ideas and places to visit. For example, the next visit to Quito we will drive by the old prison to find the closed down quarry and collect a rock specimen similar to the one pictured in this book featuring a rainbow side section. This book really is great and so far I have only gotten through half of it. The other half is fairly scientific and covers in great details the rock and soil compositions and how they relate to the geological history of Ecuador. The book also features many drawings, diagrams and charts to help you understand more about this beautiful country.

I hope to see the 2nd edition out soon! I would like to see some more pictures and more information on geology and how it affects Ecuador commercially. This might include rock climbing, canyoning, Cueva de los Toyas expedition and interior research (pics), mountain biking, etc. These activities are very popular and many of these types of people would be interested in this book. I would love to see more information as it relates to these sports activities in the future. Also, a field guide section that would allow you to possibly identify popular types of rocks in Ecuador while you do the tour roads activities.

Overall this is a great book and the best one written on Ecuador geology in particular. I was able to buy a signed copy directly from the author, Ram�n Vera. Great author and a nice guy. Keep up the hard work and I look forward to buying the 2nd edition when it comes out!

Best book available

Best book available in any language re geology of Ecuador. Published in 2013. Buy it. The only thing that comes close is The Physical Geography of South America (Oxford Regional Environments), but it is not as good.
